My dye garden is growing! I started my seedlings a couple of months ago. THESE are chocolate cosmos! For those of you that know me… you know that chocolate is one of my favorite desserts! These chocolate Cosmos literally smell like chocolate! 🤤

The bugs have a high dye content producing a gorgeous range of fuchsias, reds, and purples. The color can be shifted with different mordants. The dye from a cochineal bug is mostly used in food, drugs and cosmetics.

Marigolds dye so beautifully! I dyed this with marigold then I bundle dyed it with many fresh flowers from my garden, and added a sprinkle of cochineal.

Did you know Cochineal is a scale insect that invades the nopal cactus and is about the size of a grain of rice with a silvery purple hue. It produces the most beautiful pinkish reds. Every time I use cochineal while dyeing I thank him/her for the beautiful color you have given me. 🌵❤️
